The Kingdom of Bahrain is an island country situated near the western shores of the Arabian Gulf. Bahrain has the fastest growing economy in the Arab world and is credited as the twelfth freest economy in the world based on the 2014 Index of Economic Freedom published by the Heritage Foundation.
Bahrain has many large financial institutions and is known as the business capital of the Gulf. With its highly developed communication and transport facilities, Bahrain is home to numerous multinational firms with business in the Gulf. A large share of exports consists of petroleum products made from imported crude. Bahrain also has substantial aluminum production. Construction proceeds on several major industrial projects.
Bahrain continues to be the freest economy in the Middle East/North Africa region, and its economic freedom score is well above the world average.
Market Information – Gulf Cooperation Council(GCC)
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) was established on 25 May 1981 among Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE in view of their special relations, geographic proximity. Presently it encompasses a total area of 2,672,700 sq.km. The official language is Arabic.
The Gulf Cooperation Council launched common economic projects to promote and facilitate integration. The member states have cooperated in order to connect their power grids. A water connection project was launched and plans to be partly in use by 2020. A project to create common air transport was also unveiled.
Saudi Arabian Railways, Etihad Rail, and national governments have poured billions in railway infrastructure to create rail networks for transporting freight, connecting cities and reducing transport times.
